I didn’t plan to work in advancement. I was one of those overly-involved college students, who joined too many student orgs and learned just as much (if not more) outside the classroom than I did studying biology. One day a mentor from the development office pulled me aside and said I should consider a career there. My response was genuinely confused: “Developing what?” I didn’t know these jobs existed.
